Edward Lagdon was born in 1889 to a farm labourer, John, and his wife, Hannah. Edward was one of eight children: seven boys and one girl. In 1911, Edward was living in the family home at 74 Prospect Road, Woodford Green, and working as a painter and decorator. He married Hannah Lily Jolly on the 10th July 1915.
Edward enlisted with the army at Stratford, joining the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. He was eventually promoted to Corporal and sent to the Western Front. Edward was wounded in battle and died of his injuries on 30th July 1917. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension in Rouen, France.
His widow remarried in 1919.
