William John Henry was born in Waltham Abbey but was living with his family in Barking by 1911; his father was recorded as manager of the Philanthropic Society.
William John Henry Pain served as a Private in the Northamptonshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 9th June 1917, aged 19. His name is on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Belgium.
