Biography

Born in 1892 at Stratford. 1901: He and brother Edward were living with grandparents Thomas and Mahala Cass at 72 Farringford Road, West Ham. 1911: A Shipping Clerk living at 50 Selwyn Road, Upton Manor with his Uncle George, (widower and Insurance Agent for the Royal London) plus cousins and an Aunt. He was last shown as residing in South Woodford.

He initially enlisted at Leyton with 7 Essex Regiment, but later became a member of the Army Cyclists Corps, transferring to the 54 East Anglian Divisional Cyclists Company. The Division was sent to Gallipoli, landing at Suvla Bay on 10th August 1915. He was later Killed in Action during operations in that area. When the Division was evacuated from Gallipoli during 3rd/8th December 1915, it consisted of only 240 officers and 4480 men.

It seems that none of his remaining family wanted his medals, because on 14th January 1921 the Officer in Charge of Records at Hounslow sought authority to dispose of them.
