Biography 

Born on 15th February 1897 at Balham, son of Donald (Civil Engineer) and Fanny Clark. His father died in 1898. 1901: With his family at 1 Dornton Road, Balham. 1911: A scholar with his widowed mother and family at “Swanley” Stanley Road, South Woodford. The family home was later at 69 Derby Road.

Stanley was a Junior Draughtsman when he joined the Royal Navy on 12th July 1916 as an Ordinary Seaman for the duration of the war. Based at Chatham Dockyard, from 12th July 1916 to 19th August 1916 he then served on the armoured cruiser “Antrim” until 16th December 1917 when he returned to Chatham. He joined the destroyer “Velox” on 28th March 1918, and while on her strength he became ill. He was taken to the Royal Naval Hospital Haslar at Portsmouth, but on 12th July 1918 he died there from pneumonia.
