Biography 

Born in 1879 at Farnborough Kent, son of Henry (Agricultural Labourer) and Emma Scrivens. 1891: With his parents at Green Street Green, Farnborough. 1901: A Market Gardener living with his widowed mother at 1 Stearn Row, Chelsfield, Bromley, Kent. In about 1905 he married Lydia Louisa Mary Baker.

1911: A Farm Labourer/Market Gardener with his wife and daughters at 3 Stearns Cottages, Chelsfield Lane, Green Street Green, Orpington, Kent.  Also resident were Lydia Baker (mother in law) and William Baker (brother in law).

He enlisted at Epping while living at Woodford. The 1918 Electoral Roll shows the family home to be at 16 Oxford Terrace, Chigwell Road, Woodford Green. He served briefly with 20 Royal Fusiliers from 3rd December 1916 to 10th December 1916, before transferring to 11 Royal Fusiliers from 11th December 1916 to 21st September 1918.

11 Royal Fusiliers was involved in the battles to break through the Hindenburg Line, in particular in the vicinity of Ronssoy Wood between Peronne and Cambrai. They attacked on 18th September 1918, and fighting continued until 30th September. On 21st September the Brigade which included 11 Royal Fusiliers was advancing to the east of Ronssoy village, to secure trenches along the top of Macquincourt Valle. During the day Henry Scrivens was Killed in Action.

Later his widow left Woodford and returned to live at 3 Stearns Cottages, World End Lane, Green Street Green.

Henry is also included in the St Michael of Tours War Memorial at Chelsfield Kent.
