Born in 1887 at Buckhurst Hill, son of William Walter (Stationers Warehouseman) and Mary Nutt. 1891: With his family at 3 Regent Cottages, Lower Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill. 1901: A GPO Telegraphic Messenger Boy with with his grandparents John and Mary Cole at 1 Albert Terrace, Albert Road, Buckhurst Hill. 1911: A Postman boarding with Stephen Coles at 30 Uckfield Road, Enfield Wash. He was living at Cornwall House, Buckhurst Hill when on 14th April 1912 he married Minnie Ruth Sibley at St Martin’s Church Kentish Town. By 1915 they had established their home at 138 Forest Road, Loughton.

At 18.00 on 9th October 1916 the Battalion marched to the support line at Delville Wood on the Somme to relieve part of 37 Brigade in the firing line opposite Gueudecourt, where they were on 11-10.

Between 14.00 and 17.00 on 12th October 1916 they were part of an attack on German lines there, “W” & “X” Companies in the lead at Gueudecourt, “Y” & “Z” Companies in support by the Sunken Road. The first line of German trenches were taken. The Battalion also moved left to support 7 Suffolk Regiment, who were encountering heavy shell and machine gun fire.

“Y” & “Z” Companies remained in position until 17.30 when they retreated from various shell holes to the position they had left at the beginning of the attack. “W” & “X” Companies who had moved on to attack the second line of German trenches encountered heavy fire when half way to their objectives. They gradually withdrew to the original German front line, where a counter attack was beaten off.

At some stage during this action, Charles Nutt was Killed in Action, and not recovered.

He is commemorated on the Loughton War Memorial and St Mary,s Church Roll of Honour.

In 1921 Minnie died at the Epping Institution.
