Biography

Born in 1899 at Chigwell, son of Alfred William (Gardener) and Frances Burrows. 1911: A Scholar with his family at 2 Rose Villas, Brunel Road, Woodford Bridge (Chigwell).

He enlisted at Epping, initially serving as Private 45321 in 1/4 Suffolk Regiment, until a group of men were summarily transferred to 8 Warwickshires.

Having been on the Somme, the Battalion moved to Flanders in time for the Third Battle of Ypres which began on 31st July 1917, and which was characterised by the vast quantities of mud and water. Initially in reserve, on 12th August 1917 they marched to Border Camp, nearer to the front line. By 15th August they had moved to relieve the Buckinghamshire Regiment at Dambre Camp near Vlamertinghe. From here they would have a clear view of the battlefield.

On 15th August Arthur Burrows Died from Wounds. Unfortunately it is not possible to determine precisely when or how he sustained those injuries.
