William Tredgett was born 5th October 1895. In 1901 he was living with his mother Elizabeth Tredgett, and his younger brother and sister in Epping. By 1911, William lived at 2 Snakes Lane, Woodford Green, with his aunt and uncle and was working as a handy boy in a builder’s shop.
In 1913 he married Daisy Sparke, and they set up home in South Woodford.
William later became an Ordinary Seaman in the Royal Navy. On 23rd March 1917, he was on board HMS Laforey when it was hit by a mine explosion in the Straits of Dover. William was killed and his body was not recovered. His name appears on the Chatham Naval Memorial and Epping War Memorial.
At the time of William’s death, his wife, Daisy, was recorded as living at 5 Roseberry Cottages, Maybank Road, South Woodford.
