Born 28th August 1892
Killed in action near Lens, Friday 27th April 1917
Frederic Croker was educated at the William Morris School, and then served an apprenticeship as a printer. Those in our Church who knew him as a lad recall that he was a bright young fellow and a willing helper in practical ways. Frederic Croker had not long finished his apprenticeship when he felt it was his duty to serve his country, and in May 1915, he joined the Artists' Rifles. In due course he qualified for a commission, and was gazetted to the Lancashire Fusiliers in December, 1915. On the following Easter Saturday he was married. About November 1916, he was transferred to the Royal Flying Corps (as that arm was then called), and as a flying officer he went to France. Frederic Croker was the only member of our Church who saw service in that capacity. He had been in France only nine weeks when he was killed, his machine being brought down by enemy fire.
