Charles Jesse Pullen was born in 1893, one of nine children born to teacher Jesse and his wife, Mary. She died after the birth of her last child in around 1901. Jesse Pullen remarried in 1902.
By 1911, the family was living in 46a Kenninghall Road, Clapton, Hackney, in 1911 and Charles was working as a student teacher. He enlisted with the Royal Garrison Artillery and then joined the Royal Flying Corps where he served as a Lieutenant with the 25th Squadron.
On 4th September 1917, Charles was shot down and killed in an aerial battle near La Bassée. Charles’ name appears on the Arras Memorial at Faunough-D’Amiens Cemetery, Arras. According to his probate record Charles’ home address was listed as 31 Grove Road Wanstead.
