Biography 

Born in 1895 at Woodford, and registered as William James Westwood, son of James (Bricklayers Labourer) and Rose Westwood. 1901: With his family at 3 Chalford Terrace, Lower Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill. 1911: A Farm Labourer with his family at 8 Albert Terrace, Prospect Road, Woodford Green.

Having enlisted at Stratford, William initially served with the Essex Regiment, but was transferred to 2 Garrison Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment. In February 1917 this had been sent to India to form part of the Garrison there. William was sent out in a later draft, but never arrived. He died in transit and was buried at sea.
