Biography
Robert Payne was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1883. At the time of the 1911 census, he was living at 18 The Warren in Manor Park, and was working as a publishing clerk. Robert was living with his wife, Lillie, whom he married in 1910.
Robert enlisted with the 1st Battalion, the Irish Guards, in Belfast in 1914. He was sent to France where he was killed in action on 6th November 1914. Robert’s name appears on the Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
