Born on 10th October 1890 at Hoxton, son of Joseph Malaby (Publisher) and Alexandra Campbell Dent. 1901: With his family at Salway Lodge Salway Hill, Woodford Green. Parents later lived at 10-13 Bedford Street, Covent Garden, and "Crohamleigh" Harewood Road, South Croydon.
Educated at Bancroft’s, Mill Hill School, and Worcester College Oxford. He matriculated in 1909 but left the college in 1911 without taking a degree, and entered his father’s business - the Temple Press which published the Everyman series of books.
He joined the Seaforth Highlanders in September 1914, and arrived in France on 7th November 1914. He was attached to their machine gun section. Paxton Dent was Killed in Action during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, shot in the head while engaging the enemy with his rifle. He is also remembered on the Gate of Honour at Mill Hill School.
