Leonard Arthur Plane was born in Surrey on 7th December 1892 In 1911, Leonard was living with his father George, a tobacco merchant, his mother Emily, and his five siblings at 116 Wanstead Park Avenue.
Leonard was working as a clerk in 1911, but enlisted in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry in the early months of the war. He was sent to France and died in battle on 19th July 1915, aged 22. Leonard is buried at Bedford House Cemetery, Ypres, West Flanders in Belgium.
