Biography 

Born 1899 at Woodford, son of William Mitchell (Bricklayer) and Violet Annie Woods. In 1901 & 1911 he was living with his family at 5 Snakes Lane, Woodford Green. The family home was later 52 Carnarvon Road, South Woodford.

He joined up at Romford, and was allocated to 4 Bedfordshire Regiment.

He was with the Battalion when on 20th August 1918 they moved forward from Souastre, to occupy Leeds Trench. From here they were involved from the onset in the 2nd Battle of the Somme - Battle of Albert - which occurred during 21/27 August 1918. At some stage he was wounded, and Died from Wounds on 2th August 1918 in one of the Casualty Clearing Stations at Gezaincourt.
