Biography

This casualty is believed to be:

Born in 1892 at Stepney, son of John William (Foreman) and Elizabeth Hobson. 1901: With his widowed mother (an Office Cleaner) and siblings at 26 Kings Block, Honey Lane, Aldgate. 1911: A Clerk for Music Hall Proprietors, still living with his mother and siblings at 6 Queens Block, Honey Lane, Aldgate.

On 25th December 1915 at St Botolph without Aldgate he married 19 year old Annie Elizabeth Bishop. At that time he was already serving as Driver in the Royal Field Artillery, having enlisted in London.

She would be left a widow when was Killed in Action in the vicinity of Amiens/Arras.

By process of elimination, rather than men from Cheshire and Yorkshire, this is most likely the casualty referred to on the memorial, but his connection to South Woodford, if any, remains unknown.
