Biography 

Born in 1891 at Cheshunt Hertfordshire, son of John (Domestic Gardener) and Ann Richardson.1901: A Scholar with his family at 5 Prospect Road, Cheshunt. 1911: An Invoice Clerk, still with his family at 5 Prospect Road. The family later moved to 1 Clarks Cottages, Woodford Road, South Woodford.

He enlisted at Oxford Street and was originally allocated to 9 London Regiment, but later transferred to 2/24 London. He was sent to Egypt in June 1917. 

Jerusalem had been captured by the allies on 9th December 1917, and a defensive line was established to the north. At 01.30 on 27th December 1917 Turkish forces launched a counter attack, and although defences were initially pushed back, the lines were not breached. The attack ended on 30th December 1917 having failed in its objective of recapturing the City. John Richardson was Killed in Action during the first day of “The Defence of Jerusalem”.
