On 3rd November 1917 the Battalion relieved 1 Cambridgeshire at “Tower Hamlets”, left front sub section near the Menin Road at Ypres. They had been taken to “Shrapnel Corner” by bus, and complete the relief by 11.30. On 4th November they worked to improve the line and dugouts, and also buried the dead. During the day machine guns and snipers were very active. 5th November saw some shelling of their line and the Menin Road.
It is likely that James Wright was Killed in Action by this shelling while in the line on 5th November.
