Biography 

Born in 1898 at Hackney, son of Herbert (Laundry Proprietor) and Louisa Jeffryes. 1901: With his parents at 13 Clapton Common, Hackney. 1911: A Scholar with his parents at “The Larches” Snakes Lane, Woodford Green.

Initially a Private in 28 London (Artists Rifles), he was later Commissioned into 7 East Lancashire Regiment. He had entered the war zone in France on 5th March 1916. In May 1918 he was attached to 2 East Lancashire in the Aisne area of France.

James Jeffryes was initially reported “Missing in Action” on Sunday 27th May 1918, later amended to “Killed in Action” when his remains were recovered.
