Biography 

George Theodore Underhay was born in 1886. In 1891 and 1901, George was recorded as living at 16 Albert Road, Walthamstow, with his parents, George and Augusta, and his younger sister, Agnes Bertha.

George enlisted in the Royal Navy, and was living on board ship during the 1911 census as an Able Seaman. George later married Violet Louise Denford on 22nd June 1913.

George was at sea at the beginning of the war. He was killed on 22nd September 1914 but his body was never recovered. His name appears on the Chatham Naval Memorial.

George’s wife, Violet, was living at 35 Colenso Road, Seven Kings, at the time of George’s death. She later remarried.
