Born in 1889 at Hampstead, the second son of James (Missionary with the City Mission) and Ann Pleasance.
1891: With his family at 24 Hayling Road, Hackney. 1901: A Scholar with his family at 38 Rendlesham Road, Clapton. 1911: A Correspondence Clerk with a Charitable Trust, living with his family at “Avondale” 4 Belgrave Terrace, High Road, Chigwell. In 1916 he married Edith A. Fishpool.
He was in the Army for about six months, four of which were spent in hospital. Went to France with 2 Essex just after Christmas 1916 and was based on the Somme at Bray about 3.5 miles north of Albert. Conditions were grim with 2-6 men per day incapacitated from illness due to the cold. Within a month, he had contracted Pneumonia, and died in 48 Casualty Clearing Station at Bray Sur Somme.
