Biography 

Ernest Charles Joiner was born in 1887 to John and Charlotte Joiner. John Joiner worked as a greengrocer, an occupation which two of his sons, Ernest and Albert, followed. Ernest was born in 1887.

Ernest married his wife, Rose Anna Norman, in 1909 and by 1911 was living at 4 Grove Terrace, Grove Road, South Woodford. The couple had four children by 1915: Charles, Margery, Kathleen and Dorothy. In 1915, Ernest enlisted with the army in the 20th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge’s Own).

Ernest was sent to the Western Front where he was killed in action on 4th September 1916. He is buried in the Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, France.
