Biography 

Ernest Bennett was born in 1899, the youngest of five children. His father was a telephone clerk and his three older brothers also went into clerking for various businesses.

In 1911, the family was living at 16 Windsor Road, Wanstead, at which point Ernest and his sister, Alice, were still at school.

He enlisted in the army with the 5th Battalion, City of London (London Rifle Brigade) and was sent to the Western Front where he was killed in battle on 4th November 1918. He was buried in the Seaborg Communal Cemetery, France.
