Biography 

Born in 1897 at Poplar, son of Theobald (Corset Factory Manager) and Mary Murray. 1901: He was a patient at Brook Fever Hospital at Shooters Hill. 1911: A Scholar living with his family at 2 Eleanor Villas, Maybank Road, South Woodford.

On 16th August 1917 the Battalion was part of 169 Brigade at the Battle of Langemark near Ypres. 169 Brigade were to advance to Polygon Wood by going through Glencorse Wood. The advance began well but the Brigade had to move to the right in order to avoid an area of waterlogged ground. After a tough fight they managed to clear the Germans from Glencorse Wood, and headed on to Polygon Wood. Unfortunately they were halted by a German counter attack and forced back. During the course of the engagement Cyril Murray was Killed in Action.
