Biography
Charles Ernest Elkins was born in 1899 to shipping clerk Alfred and his wife Elizabeth. Charles was an only child, and lived with his parents at 19 Pyrmont Road, Ilford, at the time of the1911 census.
Charles enlisted with the 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. He was sent to France and was reported missing in action on 1st January 1917 in the Somme sector. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
