Biography 

Arthur Gordon Baxter was born in 1895 to John and Clara Baxter. John was a fish merchant, and the family lived comfortably at The Manor House on the High Street, Wanstead.

The Baxters had thirteen children, three of whom died before 1911. John died sometime between 1895 and 1901, leaving his wife as head of the family. By 1911, Arthur was at Haileybury College boarding school in Hertfordshire. The rest of his family, including his oldest brother George, still lived at The Manor House in Wanstead.

Arthur enlisted in the Machine Gun Corps as a Gunner. He died on 10th October 1915, in the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He is buried in the City of London cemetery.
