Born in 1890 at Swinford, Co. Mayo, Ireland, son of John Henry (a Sergeant in the Royal Irish Constabulary) and Caroline Frizelle of Ballinglen, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo. In 1901 Archibald was living with his grandfather, William Frizelle, a Royal Irish Constabulary Pensioner, at 18 Wolfe Tone Street, Sligo. He was educated at Ranelagh School Athlone, and Mountjoy School in Dublin. From there he crossed the Atlantic and went on to work for the Department of Railways and Canals in Canada as a Transitman and Leveler with the Hudson Bay Railway from 1910 to 1914. He was involved in the construction of the Les Pas to Hudson Bay line.
Returning to the UK he initially joined the Irish Guards, attesting on 26th April 1915 and rising to Lance Corporal, but was soon granted a Commission while serving at Warley Barracks. On 2nd November 1915 he became a 2nd Lieutenant attached to “B” Battery, 75 Brigade Royal Field Artillery, arriving in France on 24th March 1916. He is believed to have been Killed in Action at the Front in Ypres.
Archibald had a brother, Lance Corporal William Robert Frizelle who served in the Irish Guards. Archibald Frizelle’s name appears on the Roll of Honour at Holy Trinity Church, it is thought put there by Martha Frizelle, partner of William, who lived at 46 Alexandra Road, South Woodford, as listed on the 1918 electoral register.
