William James Carter is commemorated at Ilford Hospital Chapel of St. Thomas and St. Mary. The grey marble tablet, located on the wall of the Lady Chapel, indicates that the chapel was ‘completed by members of the congregation as part of the war memorial 1922’. It dedicates the aumbry (the recessed cupboard in the wall to the right of the chapel) to the memory of W.J. Carter and also features a dedication to his father, R.J. Carter, who died in 1915.
