A Book of Remembrance at St. Mary the Virgin Parish Church, Ilford, bears the names of all of those who died whilst serving with the 4th Battalion, the Essex Regiment during the First World War. The book is displayed within an oak and glass case and a brass plaque featuring a dedication is mounted above it.
The 4th Battalion, the Essex Regiment had their headquarters at Gordon Road, Ilford. The Battalion adopted the parish church of St. Mary’s as its own and a number of memorials of both world wars can be found in the church. ‘C’ Company was drawn from those who lived in Ilford.
