A marble plaque at St. Mary the Virgin Parish Church, in Ilford, commemorates the officers and men of the 4th Battalion, the Essex Regiment (Ilford Company) who died in the First World War. The plaque, set upon a wooden mount, is decorated with a cross which is carved out in relief at the top.

The 4th Battalion, the Essex Regiment had their headquarters at Gordon Road, Ilford. The Battalion adopted the parish church of St. Mary’s as its own and a number of memorials of both world wars can be found in the church. ‘C’ Company was drawn from those who lived in Ilford.
