Biography 

William Hadkiss was born in 1900 to Charles and Elizabeth Hadkiss and was the youngest of four siblings. In 1901, the family was living at 23 Lindley Road, Leyton.

William enlisted with the Essex Regiment in 1915. At15 years and six months he was underage but this was not unusual. William saw action in France between 1916 and 1917 after transferring to the Middlesex Regiment.

By now a Lance Corporal, William transferred to the 9th Battalion, Royal Scots, after which he was killed in action on 1st August 1918, aged 19 years old. William is buried in Raperie British Military Cemetery in Villemontoire, France.
