Biography

William Charles Frederick Morris was born in 1898. His father, also called William, was a school teacher but died in 1910. In 1911, William was living at 63 Leybourne Road, Leytonstone, with his mother, Harriet Elizabeth Morris (née Foulger), uncle, aunt and cousin.

In 1911, William was working as an assurance clerk, a job he left to enrol in the Royal Garrison Artillery.

William married Annie Elizabeth Jones sometime between 1911 and 1916. His probate records show that the pair had been living at ‘Warrendene’ on Warren Road, Wanstead. William was sent to the Western Front as a Gunner, where he was wounded in battle, later dying of his wounds on 20th December 1916. He was buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension in Rouen, France.
