Biography 

Walter Fox served as a Sergeant in the 4th Battalion, the Essex Regiment, which had its headquarters at Gordon Road, Ilford. Walter died (either in action or of his wounds) on 26th March 1917, aged 21 years old, at the first battle of Gaza. He is buried at the Gaza War Cemetery in Palestine.

Walter was the son of Herbert and Nellie Fox and in 1911 the family was living at 76 Kingston Road, Ilford. Walter was employed by the Great Eastern Railway as a ‘van lad’. At the time of his death he was married to Sabina Rose Fox of 12 Ranelagh Rd., East Ham.
