Biography 

Born in 1886 at Loughton, son of Clement (Registrar of Shares, later Retired Secretary to Phoenix Insurance Office) and Mary Hutt. He was their only child. 1891: With his parents at “Sunnybank” Woodbury Hill, Loughton. 1901: With his parents at “Woodland Cottage” New Wanstead. He was educated at Guys School. 1911: An Insurance Clerk with his parents at “Littlefield” The Drive, High Road, South Woodford (Snaresbrook). In 1913 he married Grace Laura Reader, and they made their home at “Kynance” Madeira Grove, Woodford Green.

On 1st August 1918, 56 Howitzer Brigade including 527 Siege Battery was attached to 52 (Lowland) Division, and served with them in France.

The Battery supported the assault on the Drocourt-Queant Line during 2nd September 1918, which set off a German retreat. They were in action again on 27th September 1917 when British forces engaged in the Battle of the Canal de Nord.

It is not known when or how Walter Hutt was wounded, but he Died from Wounds in a Casualty Clearing Station at Duisans. Often Artillerymen became casualties of German return shelling.
