Born in 1891 at Tottenham, son of Peter William (Artificial Florist - manufacturer) and Frances Emily Cook. 1901: With his family at 41 Prospect Hill, Walthamstow. 1911: An Apprentice Artificial Florist living with his family at Cambridge Villa Stanley Road, South Woodford. Initially he was with 12 Essex before moving to the London Rifle Brigade.
The first day of the Battle of Langemarck on 16th August 1917 saw British forces attacking at 04.45 in very bad weather, and the near destruction of 56 Division. The death in action of Leonard Cook is recorded as happening the previous day, suggesting he may have fallen victim to German shelling prior to the assault.
