John Edward Stanley Poole was born in 1895 in Middlesex. His parents were John Edward Poole, a clerk, and Sarah Jane Poole. John had one younger brother, William, who was born in 1897.
In 1901, the Poole family lived at 104 Lansdowne Road, Seven Kings. Between this date and 1910, John Poole Sr. died, and the widowed Sarah remarried. Sarah’s new husband was John William Chapman; he was 12 years older than Sarah and had four children of his own.
John and William moved into their new stepfather’s home, only a few houses down from their old house, at 104 Lansdowne Road, Ilford. In 1911, John was working as a clerk for the Wesleyan Mission.
John enlisted in the army with the 1st/13th London Regiment, where he eventually became a Sergeant. He died on 1st September 1918, although no records have been found to define the cause of death.
