Biography

Cyril Kemp was the oldest son of Charles and Eliza Kemp. Cyril was born in 1879, and had two younger brothers, Barnard (b. 1887) and Lancelot (b. 1893).

On the 21st February 1904, Cyril married Florence Rosina Wilson in Leytonstone. At the time of the 1911 census, the couple were living in Leytonstone during the 1911 census at 18 Wellesley Road, Leytonstone. Cyril and Florence had one son, Roy Cyril Kemp, who was born in 1906.

Cyril was working as a clerk before joining the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was sent to the Western Front but was killed in action on 6th July 1917, 25 days before his youngest brother Lancelot was also killed.

Although no census data has been found to place Cyril or his family in the Redbridge area, it is possible he had friends or family in the area who requested for his name to appear on a local memorial.
