Biography 

Charles George Tait Mather was born in Brazil in 1884. In 1890, his family moved back to England and set up home at 53 Wanstead Park Avenue where Charles was still recorded as living at the time of the1911 census.

Charles worked as a bank clerk and his father, William was an engineer. When war broke out, Charles enlisted with the 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed on 25th September 1915 in France, aged 31 years old. His name appears on the Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
