Biography

Born in 1887 at Wandsworth Common, the son of Arthur (Chemist) and Juliana Moyse.  1891: With his family at 172 Tufnell Park Road, Tufnell Park, North London. 1901: With his uncle George Slade (Farmer) on Park Farm Haselbury Plucknett, Yeovil, Somerset. 1911: A Drapers Assistant with W.H.Hunt & Co. 197-203 Kensington High Street. His parents were at 10 Finsbury Park Road, Finsbury Park, his father being described as a “Chemists Manager”.

After service with 2/5 Bedfordshire Regiment, Greville was transferred to the Northern Command of the Labour Corps in Yorkshire. The absence of a medal card suggests he did not see service outside the United Kingdom. He died at Ripon Military Hospital while serving after the end of the war. He was buried in Finchley rather than a cemetery local to Woodford.

A notice in the Woodford Times regarding his death gives the address of his parents, Mr & Mrs Arthur Moyse, as “Ferndale” Snakes Lane, Woodford Green, which is also the address for Greville in the 1918 Electoral Roll. That would account for his name being included in the memorial at St Barnabas Church.

Nothing else is known about this casualty or his connection to Woodford.
